4-H Spin Clubs

August is back to school time for many young Missourians – a time to reconnect with schoolmates and an opportunity to learn something new. Missouri 4-H offers youngsters those same opportunities to try something new with friends who have similar interests. With the business of life, afterschool functions and sports, not every family has the time to spare for 4-H Club and Project meetings. But what if your child is interested in rockets, robotics, or quilting?

4-H SPIN clubs may be the answer for the curious yet busy learner. 4-H SPIN clubs are Special Interest Clubs for youth ages 5-18 with common interests or hobbies. SPIN Clubs are short term and provide many of the benefits of 4-H – positive youth development opportunities and mentoring by caring adults.   A SPIN club can be started with a minimum of one adult volunteer and five young people with an interest in a particular topic. 4-H Staff and trained volunteers provide the curriculum and project resources. The knowledgeable adult provide expertise and guidance. A 4-H SPIN Club may be integrated into an existing after-school program or as a standalone program at a community center, church or other accessible space. Maybe you have an area of expertise you could lend to a SPIN Club.
